I absolutely love finding books for each season, holiday, and unit study we do in our homeschool. It just makes everything feel a little more alive and connected. Easter is no different. There's something so beautiful about this season of new life, gentle rhythms, and the deep, world-changing story of the resurrection.
But if I'm being honest? I haven't felt super prepared this year. Time is flying, and between homeschooling, laundry, toddler chaos, and trying to keep up with meals and real life—Easter has crept up on me. Can you relate?
Even so, I really want to take some time with my girls to center our hearts on Jesus. And picture books are one of my favorite ways to do that. Just a few quiet moments snuggled up with a good book can shift the atmosphere in our homes and open the door for beautiful conversations.
So I’ve gathered up a list of 10 Easter books that are lovely, meaningful, and gentle for little hearts. Some are deeply rooted in the true story of Easter. Others are sweet and simple, helping us slow down and celebrate the season with wonder.
Here are 10 beautiful Easter books to enjoy with your children:
The Garden, the Curtain and the Cross by Carl Laferton
A gospel-centered book that walks children through the story of creation, sin, and redemption—all leading to the resurrection. Clear, powerful, and beautifully illustrated.
The Donkey Who Carried a King by R.C. Sproul
Told from the perspective of the donkey who carried Jesus into Jerusalem, this book gently explains the purpose and humility of Jesus in a way children can understand.
The Story of Easter by Patricia A. Pingry
A simple board book that gives toddlers a gentle, clear introduction to the Easter story. Perfect for the littlest ones.
Easter Love Letters from God by Glenys Nellist
Each Bible-based Easter story ends with a personal "love letter from God" written to the child. It’s tender, warm, and full of hope.
God Gave Us Easter by Lisa Tawn Bergren
A beautiful conversation between Papa Bear and Little Cub about the deeper meaning of Easter, new life, and God's love.
Benjamin’s Box: The Story of the Resurrection Eggs by Melody Carlson
A great companion to Resurrection Eggs, this story follows a young boy named Benjamin who collects meaningful items during Jesus' final days.
The Berenstain Bears and the Easter Story by Mike & Jan Berenstain
The Bear cubs learn that Easter isn't just about candy and eggs, but about Jesus and His resurrection. Classic, familiar, and easy for little ones to connect with.
The Country Bunny and the Little Gold Shoes by DuBose Heyward
A vintage Easter story about a hardworking mama bunny who surprises everyone. A sweet tale of perseverance and unexpected strength.
Peter’s First Easter by Walter Wangerin Jr.
The Easter story told through Peter's eyes, filled with emotion and reverence. A great pick for family read-aloud time.
The Parable of the Lily by Liz Curtis Higgs
A gentle story about forgiveness, transformation, and the joy of Easter—told through the mystery of an unexpected gift.
You don’t have to read all of them. Just choose one or two that speak to your heart and make time for a little storytime in the coming weeks. You never know what kind of truth or comfort God might tuck into those quiet moments.
Wishing you peace, reflection, and cozy read-alouds this Easter season.
With love, Lisa
